Diskit Monastery
Diskit Monastery, located in the heart of Nubra Valley in Ladakh, India, is one of the region's most revered and ancient Buddhist monasteries. Established in the 14th century by Changzem Tserab Zangpo, a disciple of Tsongkhapa, it belongs to the Gelugpa (Yellow Hat) sect of Tibetan Buddhism. The monastery is perched on a hilltop, offering stunning views of the surrounding valley, desert landscapes, and the mighty Karakoram range. Diskit Monastery is not only a spiritual hub but also a cultural treasure, with its rich collection of ancient scriptures, murals, and Buddhist art. The central shrine is dedicated to the Maitreya Buddha, and its 32-meter statue, standing tall on a hill overlooking the valley, is an iconic sight for visitors. This statue is believed to bring peace and prosperity to the region.
